Marketing and Events Internship

The Marketing and Communications department and Public Events department work closely together at Global Minnesota to develop public and community programs that address current international issues. In its pursuit to increase Global Minnesota’s visibility for stakeholders and the larger community, the Marketing and Communications team works to implement strategic marketing and communications goals across a variety of channels, develop key messages to give the organization a consistent voice, develop brand and style guides, engage with media, oversee day-to-day communication efforts, and much more. Continuing Global Minnesota events include WorldQuest trivia competition, Global Conversations, networking socials with international visitors, ambassador receptions, the annual Great Decisions conference, and programs around our annual focus country.

Common Tasks

  • Copyrighting and editing various communication materials including letters, articles, memos, website, and social media content
  • Contact local businesses and organizations to request prizes for the annual WorldQuest trivia competition
  • Prepare event materials and assisting with event registration and follow-up
  • Content research on speakers, venues, and topics related to upcoming events
  • Help produce weekly electronic newsletter
  • Maintain database to track event attendance and other data
  • Monitor website activity
  • General clerical duties

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of basic marketing communications best practices and global current events
  • Previous experience with Publisher, Excel, or Constant Contact helpful
  • Willingness to learn additional software
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • Punctuality
  • Previous clerical experience preferred
  • Ability to provide and accept feedback
